Participatory Theatre Methods for Global Learning with reference to Theatre for Living (6h)
Overview
The module will provide an introduction to participatory theatre (PT) tools with special reference to “Theatre for Living” (TfL).
The user will learn how these methods can be applied in educational contexts and how themes of migration and sustainable development can be explored through theatrical action and reflection loops.
Starting with basic ideas, philosophy, principles and attitudes we will introduce games and exercises, which can be related to the issues of migration and sustainable development.
The main methodological focus is put on Image Theatre techniques and how to use them for reflection and the search for alternatives. The training mode is very varied, but participants should be willing to get involved in playing theatre.

Introduction
The unit will clarify, how PT methods can be used by integrating active involvement of the students: It is experience-based by using body, voice, senses and feelings, it is strongly interactive and offers safe spaces for dialogue.
In the sense of Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy (1996) it connects action and reflection and builds up bridges to everyday life. It will be shown, that the role of a teacher is understood as a facilitator who offers several tools and methods of Participatory theatre, who knows to create a supporting atmosphere in the group and who gives impulses for reflection and exchanging ideas and insights.

Unit 2: Approaching Participatory Theatre: Ideas, Principles and Process
Introduction
This unit will offer possibilities of using games and exercises for starting to explore themes of migration and sustainable development in a playful and symbolic way. It is an approach to the notions with a global sense of citizenship as a basis for the further work. It supports group building, trust, the sharpening of the senses and topic-relevant awareness.
Most of the games and exercises described in this unit can be found in David Diamonds book “Theatre for Living” (2007). Because there are many more, we can really recommend reading this book. He took and adopted a lot from Augusto Boal. For that reason his book “Games for actors and non-actors” (1996) is also warmly recommended.
